About the position

The Azure Cloud Support Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring the stability and performance of our client's Azure infrastructure. This position is based in Richmond, VA, and is a contract role focused on providing support for production incidents and outages. The engineer will be responsible for responding to incidents, conducting root cause analyses, and implementing preventive measures to avoid future occurrences. A key aspect of this role involves maintaining and optimizing Azure infrastructure, which includes monitoring system health, performance, and security, as well as managing backup and disaster recovery solutions. In addition to incident management, the Azure Cloud Support Engineer will be tasked with automating routine tasks and creating self-healing systems. This requires a strong understanding of scripting languages such as Bash and PowerShell, as well as experience with Terraform for infrastructure management. The engineer will collaborate closely with development teams to enhance application performance and scalability, ensuring that Azure resources are utilized efficiently and cost-effectively through FinOps practices. The role also involves mentoring junior team members, documenting processes and configurations, and staying updated with the latest Azure features and best practices. The engineer will support Cloud Operations and must have experience working with IT teams that utilize Azure from a platform perspective, including the use of Azure marketplace tools. This position is ideal for someone with a deep knowledge of Azure services and architecture, as well as a strong background in incident management and troubleshooting within the Azure environment.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to and resolve production incidents and outages.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for major incidents and implement preventive measures.
  • Create / Maintain Scripts: Bash and PowerShell, to maintain the infrastructure.
  • Create / Maintain Terraform Scripts.
  • Maintain and optimize Azure infrastructure for production environments.
  • Monitor system health, performance, and security.
  • Implement and manage backup and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Perform capacity planning and cost optimization.
  • Automate routine tasks and create self-healing systems.
  • Implement and maintain security controls and compliance measures.
  • Collaborate with development teams to improve application performance and scalability.
  • Manage and optimize Azure resources utilization.
  • Stay updated with new Azure features and best practices.
  • Manage and optimize costs through FinOps practices.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of new Azure-based solutions.
  • Document processes, configurations, and system architectures.
  • Mentor junior team members and share knowledge.
  • Support Cloud Operations and experience with supporting IT teams that have a footprint in Azure from a platform perspective.

Requirements

  • Deep knowledge of Azure services and architecture.
  • Understanding of Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates.
  • Working experience with Scripting Azure CLI, Bash, and PowerShell.
  • Working experience with Terraform.
  • Experience in Incident Management, troubleshooting, and Root cause Analysis on Azure using Azure Monitor, Application Insights, and Log Analytics.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills.
  • Azure Networking Experience: Configuring and Maintaining Virtual Networks, Subnets, Network Security Groups, Azure ExpressRoute and VPN configurations, Load Balancers, and Application Gateways.
  • Working experience in Azure Active Directory.
  • Configuring Role-Based Access Control (RBAC).
  • Implementing Azure Key Vault and security best practices and compliance standards.
  • Experience with High Availability and Disaster Recovery, Azure Site Recovery, and backup solutions.
