About the position

The Azure Data Architect role at SMBC involves designing, developing, and deploying cloud data solutions specifically for risk, regulatory, finance, and compliance projects. This position is pivotal in leading the migration from on-premises to cloud solutions and requires collaboration with various stakeholders to address business needs through technology. The role also includes mentoring junior team members and ensuring the integration of applications within the broader company software ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy cloud data solutions for risk, regulatory, finance, and compliance projects.
  • Lead the on-prem to cloud migration initiative.
  • Mentor junior team members in cloud data solutions.
  • Collaborate with business teams, product managers, and stakeholders to identify and address business requirements and process gaps.
  • Engage with IT systems architects, database administrators, and cybersecurity teams to meet application functionality demands.
  • Coordinate with other technology and development teams for application integration.
  • Participate in development meetings to align priorities, assign tasks, and share challenges.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of software development experience in enterprise applications, preferably in the financial services industry and on cloud data services.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or information systems preferred.
  • Extensive experience with Azure cloud solutions and services, including Azure Data Factory, Gen 2, and Azure Databricks.
  • Strong knowledge of Python, Java, or similar high-level server-side languages.
  • Advanced SQL knowledge on relational databases, preferably MS SQL Server and Azure databases.
  • Experience in designing and architecting distributed systems and containerization.
  • Familiarity with the DevOps lifecycle (git, ADO, Jenkins, etc.).
  • Experience with Jira/Confluence and REST web services.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Databricks Cluster configuration and Unity catalog repository configuration.
  • Good understanding of ETL/ELT processes.
  • Ability to build large-scale batch and real-time data pipelines in Azure.
