About the position

As MISO's Azure Data Architect, you will play a pivotal role in defining and owning end-to-end technical solutions for various data projects. Your primary responsibility will be to support delivery teams in making optimal technical decisions that align with both current data needs and long-term strategic data capabilities. You will be tasked with creating design artifacts and decision records that provide traceability throughout the project lifecycle. Collaboration will be key, as you will work closely with the Enterprise Architecture team to ensure that all solutions align with the overall IT strategy and technology roadmap. In this role, you will provide technical leadership and mentoring to business areas, technology partners, and other domain experts. You will establish and refine frameworks and tools for solutions delivery, which will include setting guard rails for data solutions, conducting automated reviews, and creating accelerators to streamline processes. Effective communication across all levels of the organization is essential, as you will be working with diverse project teams to identify and recommend continuous improvement opportunities. To be successful as our Azure Data Architect, you will need to leverage your extensive experience in data architecture, data engineering, and analytics. You will be expected to develop, communicate, and coordinate project plans effectively, ensuring that all stakeholders are aligned and informed throughout the project lifecycle. Your expertise in designing and implementing scalable and secure data architectures on Azure will be crucial, as will your knowledge of data integration and orchestration tools, particularly Azure Data Factory. Familiarity with analytics tools such as Power BI and Tableau will also be beneficial as you work to deliver high-quality data solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Define and own end-to-end technical solutions for data projects.
  • Support delivery teams to make optimal technical decisions.
  • Design solutions focusing on current data needs and long-term strategic capabilities.
  • Create design artifacts and decision records providing traceability.
  • Collaborate with the Enterprise Architecture team to ensure alignment with overall IT strategy and technology roadmap.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to business areas, technology partners, and other domain experts.
  • Establish and refine frameworks and tools for solutions delivery, including guard rails for data solutions and automated reviews.
  • Communicate across all levels of the organization and work with diverse project teams.
  • Identify and recommend continuous improvement opportunities.

Requirements

  • At least 12 years of data architecture, data engineering, analytics, or similar role experience.
  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate (preferred).
  • Ability to develop, communicate, and coordinate project plans and projects.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing scalable and secure data architectures on Azure.
  • Experience in data engineering, event/stream processing, and working in API-centric architecture.
  • Strong understanding of data architecture principles, including data modeling, ETL processes, and data warehousing.
  • Experience with data integration and orchestration tools, especially Azure Data Factory.
  • Familiarity with analytics tools and platforms like Power BI, Tableau, or Azure Analysis Services.
  • Knowledge of automation and CI/CD pipelines for data solutions.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing principles, including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS.
  • Experience with data governance, metadata management, and data quality.
