About the position
The Class B Lineman - Overhead is a semi-skilled position responsible for the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. This role requires working at various locations, including potential travel to other states based on customer demands, while ensuring safety and efficiency in all tasks.
Responsibilities
- Perform new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de-energized overhead systems safely.
- String overhead wire and set poles and anchors.
- Install transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
- Troubleshoot in primary and secondary systems and replace fuses in transformers.
- Clear faulted circuits and systems, maintaining safety protocols around high voltage systems.
- Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
- Conduct pre-job or tailgate briefings and perform reconductoring jobs safely.
- Work outside frequently in inclement weather and be willing to glove/work live high voltage distribution power lines.
Requirements
- 2-5 years of experience in a related field.
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
- Ability to obtain a Commercial Drivers License permit within 60 days of employment; a Commercial Drivers License is preferred.
- Ability to travel long distances on short notice and work for extended periods in various locations.
- Ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
- Ability to properly inspect rubber goods and PPE.
- Willingness to work overtime and outside of normal work schedules, including weekends and holidays.
