The Class B Lineman - Overhead is a semi-skilled role focused on the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. This position requires working at various locations, potentially including travel to other states based on customer demands. The role emphasizes safety while performing tasks related to energized and de-energized overhead work, and it involves physical labor and technical skills related to electrical systems.

Responsibilities

• Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized overhead work.
• String overhead wire.
• Set poles and anchors.
• Install transformers, lightening arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches and switchgear.
• Troubleshoot in primary and secondary systems.
• Replace fuses in transformers and clear faulted circuits and systems.
• Maintain company vehicles, equipment and tools in good working order.
• Perform rigorous physical labor as required.
• Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
• Familiarize with induced voltage and grounding procedures.
• Use a load buster tool effectively.
• Install and hook up a single phase transformer.
• Safely set a pole and understand equipment setup and grounding.
• Work at heights and/or in confined spaces.
• Properly install and remove PPE and cover up.
• Check voltage on transformers and tie in a primary conductor.
• Climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possess necessary tools.
• Phase out a line using phasing sticks and obtain a one shot on a recloser.
• Conduct pre-job or tailgate briefings effectively.
• Safely perform reconductoring jobs.
• Work live high voltage distribution power lines with gloves.
• Safely install and remove mechanical jumpers.
• Work outside frequently in inclement weather.

Requirements

• 2-5 years of experience in a related field.
• Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
• Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License permit within 60 days of employment (preferred).
• Willingness to travel long distances on short notice when required.
• Ability to work for extended periods in various locations when required.
• Ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
• Ability to properly inspect rubber goods and PPE.
• Willingness to work overtime when requested.
• Willingness to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
