About the position

The Class B Lineman - Overhead is a semi-skilled role focused on the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead distribution systems. This position requires working at various locations, with potential travel to other states based on customer demands. Safety is paramount, as the role involves working with energized and de-energized systems, requiring a high level of skill and care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de-energized overhead work safely.
  • String overhead wire.
  • Set poles and anchors.
  • Install transformers, lightening arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
  • Troubleshoot in primary and secondary systems.
  • Replace fuses in transformers and clear faulted circuits and systems.
  • Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
  • Conduct pre-job or tailgate briefings effectively.
  • Perform rigorous physical labor as required.
  • Work outside frequently in inclement weather.

Requirements

  • Ability to identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
  • Familiarity with induced voltage and grounding procedures.
  • Skill in using a load buster tool.
  • Capability to install and hook up a single-phase transformer.
  • Ability to safely set a pole and work at heights or in confined spaces.
  • Knowledge of equipment setup and grounding procedures.
  • Ability to check voltage on transformers and tie in a primary conductor.
  • Experience climbing different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possessing necessary tools.
