About the position

As a Business Systems Analyst, you will serve as a crucial link between our projects and business partners, ensuring that we develop comprehensive requirements and specifications that align with our organizational goals. Your role will involve understanding both current and future processes, and where applicable, integrating these processes across the enterprise. You will be responsible for gathering and documenting business needs, assisting in the creation of project business cases, and providing guidance to stakeholders on effective strategies to achieve project objectives. In this position, you will develop various types of requirements, including business, functional, system, and report specifications. You will also create test scenarios and test cases for system and integration testing, guiding partners in devising efficient approaches to achieve desired business outcomes. Your expertise will be instrumental in modeling and mapping business processes, conducting as-is/to-be analyses, and participating in business process re-engineering (BPR) initiatives. Additionally, you will be involved in organizational change exercises, writing and presenting cases, and retesting and documenting existing tasks and defects. Flexibility is key, as you may occasionally be required to work evenings and weekends to meet project deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Develop business requirements, functional requirements, system requirements, and report specifications for assigned projects.
  • Create test scenarios and test cases for system and integration testing.
  • Guide stakeholders on effective and efficient approaches to achieve desired business outcomes.
  • Model and map business processes, conducting as-is/to-be analyses.
  • Participate in business process re-engineering (BPR) initiatives and organizational change exercises.
  • Write and present business cases to stakeholders.
  • Retest and document existing tasks and defects.

Requirements

  • College degree preferred; high school diploma required.
  • Ability to manage and complete multiple concurrent tasks with various user interfaces.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Assertive, flexible, proactive team player with a strong sense of ownership.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity in business needs and requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Process and procedures oriented.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Visio.
  • Hands-on experience with Agile methodologies and Use Cases is a plus.
  • Insurance experience is a plus.
  • Understanding of databases, tables, and fields to pull SQL queries is a plus.
  • US Work Authorization required; Markel does not provide visa sponsorship.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in insurance industry is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and Use Cases.
