About the position

The Backend / API Engineer at Stripe, Inc. is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining APIs, services, and systems across the engineering teams. This role involves developing software infrastructure, conducting testing and validation procedures, debugging production issues, and collaborating with engineers to build large-scale features. The engineer will also focus on securely storing sensitive data and improving engineering standards and processes.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain APIs, services, and systems across Stripe's engineering teams using Ruby, Scala, and Go.
• Build software infrastructure, including developing, testing, and deploying it.
• Design and develop software systems using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcomes.
• Develop and direct software system testing and validation procedures, programming, and documentation.
• Debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack.
• Analyze user needs and software requirements to determine the feasibility of design within time and cost constraints.
• Work with engineers across the company to build new features at large-scale.
• Build new systems to securely store sensitive data.
• Improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 4 years of Software engineering experience.
• 4 years of experience in implementing industry standard design patterns.
• 4 years of Software engineering experience in building full-stack web applications at scale.
• 4 years of experience in using SQL and related query languages to perform data analysis.
• 2 years of experience in working with Python, Ruby, React, and AWS.
• 2 years of experience in building frontend Javascript web applications.
• 1 year of experience with database management in MongoDB.
