About the position

Texas A&M University's Technology Services is seeking a Backend Software Application Developer II to support the admissions process. The role focuses on designing, implementing, and maintaining backend services that manage large volumes of data, ensuring data security and integrity, particularly using PL/SQL and Oracle databases. The ideal candidate will contribute to the development of applications for the student information system and web portal, while also participating in quality assurance and project coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews, designs, codes, debugs, and tests complex computer programs, websites, program modifications, and web applications.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves complex problems.
  • Develops applications for the student information system (Banner) and web portal (Howdy).
  • Actively participates in quality assurance.
  • Coordinates the technical activities of a small project team.
  • Develops reports and summaries for management and/or users.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of software applications developer experience.
  • Three years of experience writing Oracle PL/SQL stored procedures.
  • Three years of experience in database development and programming utilizing relational databases.
  • Experience with peer review and peer programming through tools driven by SVN revision control.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with the Banner student information system and the uPortal portal framework.
  • Experience with Unix, PL/SQL Developer, JIRA, Confluence, Team Dynamix.
