Background Investigators (Part-Time)

About the position

The Background Investigator position at Rutgers University involves conducting thorough background checks on public safety candidates to ensure compliance with university policies and state laws. This part-time role requires reviewing various records, interviewing references, and preparing detailed reports to assist in the hiring process.

Responsibilities

• Review completed background interview forms for public safety candidates, checking for inconsistencies and errors.
• Obtain and review records from law enforcement and credit reporting agencies to evaluate candidates' backgrounds.
• Conduct background investigations by interviewing various individuals including employers, co-workers, and family members.
• Prepare detailed interview statements and organize investigative material for review by management.
• Meet regularly with management and candidates to update them on the status of investigations.
• Complete background packages for final review and recommendations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• NJ Driver's License.
• Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret complex written material.
• Strong report writing skills and ability to analyze complex information.
• Time management skills to prioritize multiple investigations.
• Effective communication skills to interact with diverse individuals.

Nice-to-haves

• Prior certified law enforcement officer or civilian associated with a law enforcement agency.
• Notary certification.

Benefits

• Hourly pay of $25.00 per hour.
• Part-time work arrangement with 19.5 hours per week.
