About the position

The position involves providing friendly and welcoming assistance to customers using automated self-service technologies for checking baggage. The role requires interpreting government rules for domestic and international travel and serving customers in a caring and efficient manner.

Responsibilities

  • Assist customers with checking baggage through automated self-service technologies.
  • Interpret government rules and requirements for domestic and international travel.
  • Serve customers in a caring, efficient, and diplomatic manner.
  • Actively participate in the Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Stand for extended periods in the Bag Drop check-in area to assist customers.
  • Comprehend and communicate up-to-date carry-on and checked baggage requirements.
  • Query passengers using FAA mandated security questions.
  • Verify customer identification as required by the FAA/TSA.
  • Visually verify proper placement of bag tags on self-tagged checked baggage.
  • Verify carry-on items meet carrier size requirements.
  • Activate bag tags using automated electronic scanning devices.
  • Verify weight of each checked item and collect baggage fees when applicable.
  • Handle checked bags as required (lifting, weighing, placing on bag belt, etc.).
  • Affix printed bag tags from assigned podium printers.
  • Change stock in automated printers and complete required paperwork.
  • Demonstrate welcoming and helpful behaviors throughout all tasks.
  • Comply with all safety requirements, including using trained equipment and reporting unsafe conditions.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous airport and/or customer service experience preferred.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have reliable telephone and transportation.
  • Ability to read, understand, and carry out instructions in English.
  • Ability to communicate in English clearly and concisely, both verbally and in written form.
  • Must be able to lift, stoop, squat, push, stand, and/or bend throughout the shift.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and/or hold up to 75 lbs.
  • Must pass pre-employment and random drug tests.
  • Must pass a Criminal Background check.
  • Must meet necessary requirements to obtain a security sensitive identification badge.
  • Must be a citizen of the US or possess necessary authorization from the immigration and naturalization Service (INS).
