About the position

Over 48 million passengers traveled through Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in 2023, one of the busiest airports in the country in the nation's 5th largest city. Sky Harbor is the largest of three airports in the Phoenix Airport System (Phoenix Sky Harbor, Deer Valley, and Goodyear airports) which is operated by the City of Phoenix Aviation Department and has an economic impact over $44 billion annually. The Aviation Department has a vacancy for a Baggage Handling Systems Supervisor position. This role interacts with airport stockholders including the airlines and local and federal agencies daily at Sky Harbor International Airport, managing the day-to-day operation and maintenance of an in-line security Baggage Handling System (BHS) in a large HUB airport.

Responsibilities

  • Administration of BHS databases.
  • Supervising City of Phoenix staff and contract staff engaged in the maintenance and operation of complex baggage handling systems.
  • Overseeing Allen Bradley/BHS Architectural Controls and ensuring BHS system complies with the Transportation Security Administration security directives and policies.
  • Maintenance of high-speed diverters, PLCs, vertical sorters, motor control panels, computer networks, Microsoft updates, conveyor belts, computer workstations, and manage parts.
  • Supervise Electronic System Specialists and Building Operator II's in maintaining and repairing BHS inbound equipment and parts inventories to protect city-owned assets.

Requirements

  • One year of experience in systems applications analysis, programming or telecommunications functions utilizing a variety of hardware and software or installation and maintenance of digital systems, radio, and electronic communications systems.
  • OR One year of experience in telephone station equipment and related telecommunications distribution systems.
  • OR One year of experience in avionics maintenance.
  • And course work including training or experience with one or more workstation computers and one or more programming languages and one or more operating systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience overseeing O&M vendor for MX operations.
  • Experience supervising Electronic Systems Specialists and technicians.
  • Experience overseeing an enterprise computer replacement program.
  • Experience working with vendors and stakeholders to obtain quotes and purchase IT related assets in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of an in-line security Baggage Handling Systems or bulk material handling systems, including knowledge of Allen/Bradley integrated architecture or equivalent.
  • Virtual Server environment and database administration experience as it relates to baggage handling system.
