About the position

Do you love working in a state of the art bakery committed to producing perfect breads & pastries? Are you a self-driven, creative individual who takes pride in their craft? We are looking for YOU to join us at our new bakery in Salem, MA. This is a full-time position with great growth opportunities. As a bakery/pastry chef you will work as part of a team to produce the highest quality products. As a Baker/Pastry Chef, you will be responsible for making base doughs such as laminated, brioche, muffin/scone, pie/tart, and more. You will also be involved in making and assembling cakes, shaping breads and bagels, and making and decorating donuts. Additionally, you will be tasked with making frostings and glazings, consistently following recipes, and scaling them up or down as needed while noticing any issues or mistakes. Your role will include stove-top and oven production, cleaning and closing the kitchen, and lifting up to 60lbs. You will operate commercial size mixers, dishwashers, sheeters, and ovens, and will be expected to ask for help or direction when needed. Troubleshooting quickly and calmly is essential, as is working in an organized and clean manner. You will need to stay active and handle the physical requirements of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Make base doughs such as laminated, brioche, muffin/scone, pie/tart, etc.
  • Make and assemble cakes.
  • Shape breads and bagels.
  • Make and decorate donuts.
  • Make frostings and glazings.
  • Consistently follow recipes and scale them up or down as needed while noticing issues/mistakes.
  • Engage in stove-top production and oven production.
  • Clean and close the kitchen at the end of the shift.
  • Lift up to 60lbs as required.

  • Ask for help or direction when needed.

Requirements

  • Experience or training as a baker/pastry chef.
  • Ability to thrive in a busy, fast-paced, and high-volume kitchen.
  • Strong attention to detail and self-driven work ethic.
  • Organizational skills and a positive attitude in the workplace.
  • Passion for baking/pastries (and ideally coffee too).
  • Full-time and flexible availability, including weekends.
  • A long-term commitment to the role.
