About the position

As a Bakery Decorator at Whole Foods Market, you will be responsible for creating and decorating a variety of bakery items, including cakes, tarts, and pastries. This role emphasizes artistic talent and attention to detail, ensuring that all products meet quality standards while providing excellent customer service. You will also support company initiatives and adhere to food safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, fill, and finish/decorate cakes, tarts, and special-order bakery items.
• Build, ice, and decorate cakes and other bakery items following standard procedures.
• Complete production and spoilage records according to standard procedures.
• Prioritize production lists and recommend adjustments as needed.
• Merchandise and showcase products in the sales display case.
• Monitor product quality for freshness and ensure proper product rotation.
• Provide guidance and support for Bakery Decorator Apprentices and other Team Members.
• Create special order cake designs based on customer preferences.
• Provide excellent customer service and address customer needs promptly.
• Maintain a clean and sanitary working environment and equipment.

Requirements

• Minimum of 6-12 months retail or restaurant experience.
• Completion of the Bakery Decorator Apprentice training program or equivalent experience.
• Efficient cake and pastry decorating skills, including intermediate piping techniques.
• Understanding of color theory for blending buttercream colors.
• Ability to apply proper techniques with various icings.
• Ability to follow recipes and effective time management skills.
• Advanced knife handling and tool safety skills.
• Basic math skills for recipe conversions.
• Strong communication skills and teamwork ability.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
