About the position

The Bakery Clerk at Hy-Vee is responsible for providing exceptional customer service while preparing and replenishing bakery products. This part-time role emphasizes a friendly and efficient shopping experience, ensuring product freshness and cleanliness in the bakery department. The clerk will engage with customers, assist with their needs, and maintain a positive company image through courteous interactions.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions.
• Greets customers in a friendly manner and makes an effort to learn their names.
• Assists customers by escorting them to products, loading/unloading heavy items, and addressing customer suggestions or requests.
• Reviews the status and appearance of food for freshness and takes customer orders at the bakery counter.
• Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
• Practices proper sanitation procedures and ensures the work area is clean and neat.
• Ensures an adequate food supply is ready and anticipates product needs for the department.
• Prepares, finishes, and replenishes products as necessary, including pulling products from cooler/freezer for baking.
• Checks in products, puts them away, and may review invoices.
• Runs department registers, receives payments, and makes change as applicable.
• Removes trash in a timely manner and maintains adherence to personal hygiene and dress guidelines.

Requirements

• Must have a high school diploma or GED or equivalent experience.
• Less than high school or equivalent experience and six months or less of similar or related work experience.
• Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions and deal with a few concrete variables.
• Ability to perform simple addition and subtraction, and to count and record figures.

• Experience in a bakery or food service environment.
