About the position

The Bakery Clerk at Hy-Vee is responsible for providing excellent customer service while preparing and replenishing bakery products. This role involves ensuring product freshness, taking customer orders, and maintaining a clean work environment. The Bakery Clerk plays a vital role in enhancing the shopping experience for customers and supporting team members in a collaborative work atmosphere.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions.
• Greets customers in a friendly manner and makes an effort to learn their names.
• Assists customers by escorting them to products, loading/unloading heavy items, and addressing customer suggestions or requests.
• Reviews the status and appearance of food for freshness and takes customer orders at the bakery counter.
• Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
• Practices proper sanitation procedures and ensures the work area is clean and neat.
• Ensures an adequate food supply is ready and develops or follows a production list.
• Prepares, finishes, and replenishes product as necessary, and checks in product and reviews invoices.
• Runs the department registers and receives payment, makes change, etc.
• Removes trash in a timely manner.

Requirements

• Less than High school education or equivalent experience.
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience.
• Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions.
• Ability to perform simple addition and subtraction and record figures accurately.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a bakery or food service environment.
