About the position

The Bakery Clerk at Hy-Vee is responsible for providing exceptional customer service while preparing and replenishing bakery products. This role emphasizes a friendly and efficient approach to customer interactions, ensuring a positive shopping experience. The clerk will also maintain product freshness, adhere to sanitation procedures, and support team collaboration within the bakery department.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions.
• Greets customers in a friendly manner and makes an effort to learn their names.
• Assists customers by escorting them to products, loading/unloading heavy items, and addressing customer suggestions or requests.
• Reviews the status and appearance of food for freshness and takes customer orders at the bakery counter.
• Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
• Practices proper sanitation procedures and ensures the work area is clean and neat.
• Ensures an adequate food supply is ready and follows a production list.
• Anticipates product needs for the department on a daily basis and prepares, finishes, and replenishes products as necessary.
• Checks in products, puts them away, and may review invoices.
• Runs department registers, receives payments, and makes change as applicable.
• Removes trash in a timely manner and maintains adherence to hygiene and dress guidelines.

Requirements

• Less than High school education or equivalent experience.
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience.
• Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions.
• Ability to perform simple addition and subtraction and record figures accurately.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a bakery or food service environment.
