About the position

As a Grocery Clerk (Bakery/Deli), you will play a vital role in creating an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service. Your primary responsibility will be to establish and maintain a safe and clean environment that encourages our customers to return. You will assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals established for the department while monitoring all established quality assurance standards. Embracing the Customer 1st strategy is essential, as you will encourage associates to deliver excellent customer service and demonstrate the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety of others. In this position, you will be responsible for preparing items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment. You will also offer product samples to help customers discover new items or products they inquire about. It is crucial to provide customers with fresh products that they have ordered and the correct portion size to prevent shrink. You will recommend deli or bakery items to customers to ensure they get the products they want and need, while also using all equipment in the bakery such as refrigerators, freezers, slicers, and ovens according to company guidelines. Additionally, you will prepare foods according to the food temperature logs and follow cooking instructions. This includes measuring, preparing, and mixing ingredients according to recipes using a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment. You will also be responsible for adequately preparing, packaging, labeling, and inventorying ingredients in merchandise, checking product quality to ensure freshness, and reviewing "sell by" dates to take appropriate action. Your role will also involve maintaining an awareness of inventory/stocking conditions and noting any discrepancies in inventory. Creating an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important, and appreciated is key. You will answer questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store, ensuring that you stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads. Promoting trust and respect among associates is essential, as is adhering to all food safety regulations and guidelines. You will reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions to notify store management. Displaying a positive attitude and practicing preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment will be part of your daily responsibilities.
