About the position

The Grocery Clerk (Bakery/Deli) position focuses on creating an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service while maintaining a safe and clean environment. The role involves assisting the department manager in achieving sales and profit goals, monitoring quality assurance standards, and promoting the company's core values. The clerk will engage with customers, prepare food items, and ensure product freshness, all while adhering to food safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service.
• Establish and maintain a safe and clean environment that encourages customer return.
• Assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals for the department.
• Monitor all established quality assurance standards.
• Embrace the Customer 1st strategy and encourage associates to deliver excellent customer service.
• Demonstrate the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety of others.
• Prepare items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
• Offer product samples to help customers discover new items.
• Inform customers of bakery and/or deli specials.
• Provide customers with fresh products ordered and the correct portion size.
• Recommend deli or bakery items to customers.
• Use all bakery equipment according to company guidelines.
• Prepare foods according to food temperature logs and cooking instructions.
• Measure, prepare, and mix ingredients according to recipes.
• Adequately prepare, package, label, and inventory ingredients.
• Check product quality to ensure freshness and review 'sell by' dates.
• Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
• Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
• Understand the store's layout and locate products for customers.
• Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
• Maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and respond to customer inquiries.
• Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and logs are kept.
• Promote trust and respect among associates.
• Create an environment that makes customers feel welcome and appreciated.
• Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
• Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions.
• Display a positive attitude and practice preventive maintenance on equipment.
