About the position

The Bakery/Deli Clerk position at Kroger is a part-time role focused on creating an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service in the bakery and deli departments. The clerk will assist in maintaining a safe and clean environment, support the department manager in achieving sales and profit goals, and uphold quality assurance standards. The role emphasizes customer service, effective communication, and adherence to food safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
  • Offer product samples to help customers discover new items.
  • Inform customers of bakery and/or deli specials.
  • Provide customers with fresh products they have ordered in the correct portion size.
  • Recommend deli or bakery items to customers.
  • Use bakery equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, slicers, and ovens according to company guidelines.
  • Prepare foods according to food temperature logs and cooking instructions.
  • Measure, prepare, and mix ingredients according to recipes using various kitchen utensils and equipment.
  • Package, label, and inventory ingredients in merchandise.
  • Check product quality to ensure freshness and review 'sell by' dates.
  • Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
  • Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
  • Understand the store's layout to assist customers in locating products.
  • Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
  • Maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and respond to customer inquiries.
  • Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and logs are kept.
  • Promote trust and respect among associates and create a welcoming environment for customers.
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions.
  • Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying management of repairs needed.
  • Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
  • Work cooperatively in a high-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
  • Manage conflict in a reasonable and cooperative manner.
  • Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
  • Follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve issues.
  • Provide support and assistance to minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
