About the position

The Bakery Department Manager is responsible for creating an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service while achieving sales and profit goals. This role involves supervising all functions and activities within the Bakery department, ensuring a safe and clean environment, and adhering to quality assurance standards. The manager will also promote teamwork, develop associates, and maintain compliance with all relevant laws and company guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a safe and clean environment for customers.
  • Achieve sales and profit goals for the Bakery department.
  • Monitor and control quality assurance standards.
  • Direct, support, and supervise all functions and activities in the Bakery department.
  • Model and demonstrate the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.
  • Promote trust and respect among associates while communicating relevant information.
  • Collaborate with associates to achieve company and store goals.
  • Establish performance goals for the department and empower associates to meet or exceed targets.
  • Develop adequate scheduling to manage customer volume during operational hours.
  • Train and develop associates on their job performance and participate in performance appraisals.
  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal laws, and company guidelines.
  • Create an environment that makes customers feel welcome and appreciated.
  • Inform customers of bakery specials and recommend products to meet their needs.
  • Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department.
  • Prepare bakery items per customer requests and offer product samples.
  • Provide customers with fresh products in the correct portion size to prevent shrinkage.
  • Use bakery equipment according to company guidelines.
  • Partner with store management to develop and implement a department business plan.
  • Prepare and submit seasonal critiques for the sales and merchandising supervisor.
  • Stay current with seasonal and special ads and inform associates.
  • Monitor and control department expenses.
  • Assist in preparing the store/department budget and profit and loss reviews.
  • Schedule routine price changes and update promotional signs.
  • Plan, organize, and supervise the inventory process.
  • Adhere to food safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Reinforce safety programs and identify unsafe conditions.
  • Practice preventive maintenance on equipment and report issues.
  • Notify management of customer or employee accidents and safety risks.

Requirements

  • Effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic math.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Current food handlers permit once employed.
