About the position

The Bakery Manager Trainee at Jewel Osco is responsible for providing prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service while training, coaching, supervising, and evaluating Bakery associates. This role is crucial in maintaining performance standards and supervising all Bakery activities to achieve budgeted sales and profit goals. The Bakery Manager Trainee will monitor and enforce all government and company regulations, ensuring compliance in all operations. The position requires a strong focus on customer interaction, where the trainee will greet customers, assist them in finding products, and resolve any complaints or issues that arise. In addition to customer service, the Bakery Manager Trainee will direct and participate in all Bakery activities, including receiving, baking, preparing, packaging, displaying, and ordering products. This hands-on role involves planning and monitoring production to control shrinkage and promote sales, as well as maintaining the sales floor by stocking racks, cleaning spills, and inspecting products for quality and freshness. The trainee will also be responsible for completing daily bookwork and documentation as required by the company or store director. The position includes supervisory responsibilities, where the trainee will administer discipline, train associates, evaluate their performance, and prepare weekly work schedules to ensure adequate coverage. The Bakery Manager Trainee will also monitor compliance with safety and sanitation regulations, ensuring a safe working environment for both associates and customers. This role is designed to prepare the trainee for a managerial position within the Bakery department, equipping them with the necessary skills and experience to succeed in a leadership role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service.
  • Train, coach, supervise, and evaluate Bakery associates.
  • Direct and participate in all Bakery activities including receiving, baking, preparing, packaging, displaying, and ordering products.
  • Attain budgeted sales and profit goals of the Bakery Department.
  • Assist customers with special orders via telephone, online orders, or in person.
  • Maintain sales floor by stocking racks, cleaning spills, and inspecting products for quality and freshness.
  • Prepare and complete all daily bookwork and documentation required by the Company or Store Director.
  • Monitor production to control shrink and promote sales.
  • Ensure proper merchandising of products according to schematics and customer demands.
  • Administer discipline and evaluate work performance of department associates.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1 year of management experience (preferred).
  • Valid Driver's License (preferred).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to handle refrigerated and frozen products.
  • Maintain valid food service sanitation certification.
