The Band Sponsor position at Sunnyside Unified School District is designed to provide coaching and guidance to students participating in extracurricular athletic activities. The primary goal is to channel students' energy into healthy pursuits that foster sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal confidence. The philosophy of 'Every Player Plays' is central to this role, ensuring that all interested students have the opportunity to participate in athletic events. The position is based at Desert View High School and is set to commence on August 5, 2024. In this role, the Band Sponsor will be responsible for maintaining an inventory of all equipment, supplies, and uniforms necessary for the athletic program. The individual will follow and enforce school policies and rules, including eligibility requirements set forth by the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) or the relevant governing body. The Band Sponsor will also be tasked with making arrangements for games, which includes scheduling facilities, transportation, and officials. Attendance at league meetings and activities is expected when appropriate, and the individual must demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times. Athletic eligibility is a critical aspect of this position. The Band Sponsor must ensure that all participating students have a current physical and insurance information on file. Each student must receive a clearance slip before they can practice or compete, and they must be passing all classes with a grade of C or better. Coaches are required to send a list of players to teachers one week prior to games to verify eligibility, adhering strictly to all eligibility policies to avoid forfeiture of games due to ineligible participants. The Band Sponsor will also be responsible for adhering to uniform policies and procedures, ensuring that uniforms are checked out and returned in a timely manner, and that only eligible students are issued uniforms for game day. The physical demands of the job include standing, walking, sitting, and the ability to lift and move up to 75 pounds. The work environment is typically moderate in noise level, and reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
