About the position

The Bank Credit Risk Analyst I position at USAA involves utilizing quantitative methods to identify and manage credit risk within consumer credit portfolios. The role focuses on developing credit strategies, monitoring performance, and ensuring compliance with operational and regulatory standards. The analyst will work collaboratively with various teams to optimize profitable growth while mitigating risks associated with credit strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Identify credit risks and opportunities within the portfolio using analytical skills and industry practices.
  • Synthesize analyses to develop recommendations for credit risk strategy development.
  • Deliver Bank credit risk strategies across lines of defense by managing analytical projects and communicating insights to leadership.
  • Utilize industry knowledge and benchmarking to inform credit strategy development.
  • Conduct quantitative analysis using internal and external data sources to address complex problems.
  • Prepare comprehensive risk and financial reports for senior management oversight.
  • Perform financial risk sensitivity analysis and support credit strategy infrastructure management.
  • Apply programming and analytical techniques to analyze credit data and support junior team members.
  • Collaborate with partners to guide the development and implementation of key initiatives.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are identified, measured, and controlled according to policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a Mathematical subject area; or 4 years of related experience may substitute for a degree.
  • 4 years of experience in an analytical field or leading analytical projects, with a focus on credit risk data and financial analysis; or an advanced degree with 2 years of experience.
  • Understanding of banking regulations, risk, and compliance.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills.
  • Good business acumen with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong research and investigation skills with good judgment in problem-solving.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with data analysis tools such as SQL, SAS, or other business intelligence software.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2+ years of experience with Python, SAS, or SQL for data analysis.
  • 2+ years of experience in credit risk management for consumer lending products.
  • Experience with Credit Karma LightBox strategy or NPV model for consumer lending.
  • Experience working with cross-functional partners to build consensus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to translate analysis into actionable insights.
  • US military experience through service or as a military spouse/domestic partner.
