About the position

The Bank Credit Risk Analyst I position at USAA involves utilizing quantitative methods to identify and manage credit risk within consumer credit portfolios. The role focuses on developing credit strategies, monitoring performance, and ensuring compliance with banking regulations. The analyst will work collaboratively with various teams to optimize growth while mitigating operational risks, all within a flexible work environment that requires in-office attendance four days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Identify risks and opportunities within the credit portfolio and develop strategic solutions.
  • Synthesize analyses to identify root causes and provide recommendations for credit risk strategy development.
  • Deliver Bank credit risk strategies across lines of defense by managing analytical projects and communicating insights to leadership.
  • Utilize industry knowledge and benchmarking to inform credit strategy development.
  • Conduct quantitative analysis using internal and external data sources to address complex problems.
  • Prepare comprehensive risk and financial reports for senior management oversight.
  • Perform financial risk sensitivity analysis and support credit strategy management.
  • Apply programming and analytical techniques to analyze credit data and support junior team members.
  • Collaborate with partners to facilitate the development and implementation of key initiatives.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are identified, measured, and controlled according to policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a Mathematical subject area; OR 4 years of related experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 4 years of experience in an analytical field or work focused on leading analytical projects and risk assessments.
  • Understanding of banking regulations, risk, and compliance.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills.
  • Good business acumen and attention to detail.
  • Strong research and investigation skills with good judgment in problem-solving.
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with data analysis tools such as SQL, SAS, or other business intelligence software.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2+ years of experience with Python, SAS, or SQL for data analysis.
  • Experience in credit risk management and analytical projects for consumer lending products.
  • Familiarity with Credit Karma LightBox strategy or NPV model for consumer lending products.
  • Experience working with cross-functional partners to build consensus.
  • US military experience through service or as a military spouse/domestic partner.
