About the position

As a Bank Credit Risk Analyst Senior at USAA, you will leverage quantitative methods to identify and manage credit risk, develop credit strategies, and monitor performance for consumer credit portfolios. This role is crucial in optimizing profitable growth while adhering to risk appetite and mitigating operational and compliance risks. You will collaborate with various teams to enhance credit strategies and ensure effective implementation, all while contributing to the financial security of U.S. military members and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Identify risks and opportunities within the credit portfolio and translate results into strategic solutions.
  • Synthesize analyses to identify root causes and develop recommendations for credit risk strategy development.
  • Develop and improve complex analytical frameworks and communicate insights to key partners and leadership.
  • Analyze internal and external scores/data to identify first party fraud.
  • Advise on credit strategy development using industry knowledge and benchmarking.
  • Conduct advanced quantitative analysis to clarify ambiguous problems.
  • Prepare comprehensive risk and financial reporting for senior management oversight.
  • Perform complex financial risk sensitivity analysis.
  • Build and manage credit strategy infrastructure to ensure proper implementation.
  • Utilize expert programming and analytical techniques to analyze credit data.
  • Provide thought leadership and mentoring to team members in analytics and risk management.
  • Collaborate with partners to facilitate the development and implementation of key initiatives.
  • Apply insights to develop strategic plans impacting business results.
  • Coach and mentor other analysts, acting as a leader within the analyst community.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a Mathematical field; OR 4 years of related experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 6 years of experience in an analytical field or leading analytical projects, advanced analytics, risk assessments, or bank credit risk data; OR an advanced degree and 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in financial analysis activities to support risk strategy.
  • Strong understanding of banking regulations, risk, and compliance.
  • Advanced presentation and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in analysis.
  • Advanced research and investigation skills with good judgement in problem solving.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Advanced knowledge of data analysis tools including SQL, SAS, or other Business Intelligence applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • 6+ years of experience with Python, SAS, or SQL for data analysis.
  • Experience in credit risk management and analytical projects for consumer lending products.
  • Experience with credit card origination credit strategy or valuation models for consumer lending products.
  • Experience working with cross-functional partners to build consensus and drive initiatives.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to translate analysis results into clear insights.
