About the position

The Bankcard Operations Representative at Westamerica Bank is responsible for monitoring and investigating merchant processing activities, ensuring compliance with risk policies, and providing excellent customer service. This role involves handling customer inquiries, conducting investigations, and maintaining merchant accounts to support a superior customer experience in the financial services sector.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and investigate merchant's processing activities using various risk tools.
• Field customer calls requiring explanations of underwriting/risk policies and decisions.
• Contact banks, merchants, and cardholders to verify transactions processed through merchant accounts.
• Conduct regular investigations to ensure risk management and compliance.
• Document risk assessment findings concisely.
• Deliver efficient and quality services that meet or exceed service level standards.
• Perform merchant account maintenance, including profile and bank account updates.
• Collaborate with internal sales and colleagues to enhance the merchant experience.
• Stay current on merchant industry trends relevant to supported industries.
• Support the Credit team in reviewing merchant accounts.

Requirements

• 1-2 years in the merchant services industry with experience in fraud and risk (preferred).
• Experience with various transaction and risk monitoring tools/systems (preferred).
• Analytical mindset with a critical, investigative approach to problem-solving.
• Detail-oriented with a high level of curiosity and risk awareness.
• Solid written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to juggle multiple tasks and deliver consistent high performance.
• Experience with Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets (basic functions).
• Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in customer service (1 year required).
• Experience in bookkeeping (1 year preferred).
• Experience in accounts payable/receivable (1 year preferred).
