About the position

The Bankcard Operations Representative I at Westamerica Bank is responsible for monitoring and investigating merchant processing activities, ensuring compliance with risk policies, and providing excellent customer service. This role involves collaborating with internal teams to support merchants and maintaining accurate documentation of risk assessments.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and investigate merchant's processing activities using various risk tools.
• Field customer calls requiring explanations of underwriting/risk policies and decisions.
• Contact banks, merchants, and cardholders to verify transactions processed through merchant accounts.
• Conduct regular investigations to ensure risk management and compliance.
• Document risk assessment findings concisely.
• Deliver efficient and quality services that meet or exceed service level standards.
• Perform merchant account maintenance, including profile and bank account updates.
• Collaborate with internal sales and colleagues to enhance the merchant experience.
• Stay current on merchant industry trends relevant to supported industries.
• Support the Credit team in reviewing merchant accounts.

Requirements

• 1-2 years in the merchant services industry with experience in fraud and risk (preferred).
• Experience with various transaction and risk monitoring tools/systems (preferred).
• Analytical mindset with a critical, investigative approach to problem-solving.
• Detail-oriented with a high level of curiosity and risk awareness.
• Solid written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to juggle multiple tasks and deliver consistent high performance.
• Experience with Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets (basic functions).
• Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves

• Intermediate computer skills.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as discounts, interest, and percentages.
