About the position

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Bankruptcy Paralegal to join our new startup Bankruptcy practice in New Orleans, LA. This position is ideal for a candidate with a strong background in bankruptcy law who is proficient in managing complex legal documents and processes. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting attorneys in the preparation of bankruptcy cases, ensuring that all legal requirements are met. This position will start with limited hours and will grow as the practice expands, providing an excellent opportunity for professional growth and development in a dynamic environment. The Bankruptcy Paralegal will be responsible for assisting attorneys in the preparation of bankruptcy petitions and other legal documents. This includes conducting legal research using Lexis-Nexis and other sources to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations. The paralegal will manage and maintain accurate and up-to-date records and files related to bankruptcy cases, organizing and reviewing documents for completeness and accuracy. Utilizing document management systems to store and retrieve relevant legal documents will also be a key responsibility. In addition, the paralegal will assist in the preparation of financial statements and schedules for bankruptcy cases, perform data entry tasks related to these cases, and collaborate with attorneys and other legal staff to ensure the efficient and accurate preparation of bankruptcy cases. Staying up-to-date on relevant bankruptcy laws and regulations is essential, as is assisting in the preparation of pleadings, motions, and other legal documents for bankruptcy cases. This role requires a candidate who can handle a simple case from beginning to end and is ready to take the lead in growing the practice together with the team.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in bankruptcy law (Required)
  • Strong knowledge of bankruptcy law and procedures.
  • Proficiency in document management systems.
  • Experience with legal research and document review.
  • Familiarity with Lexis-Nexis or similar legal research tools.
  • Ability to manage and organize complex legal documents and records.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Experience with data entry and financial statements.
  • Knowledge of family law and environmental law.
  • Ability to work effectively in a law office setting.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Nice-to-haves
