About the position

The Bankruptcy Paralegal plays a crucial role in supporting the bankruptcy attorney by managing various tasks related to bankruptcy cases. This position involves preparing legal documents, communicating with clients and trustees, and ensuring compliance with bankruptcy timelines and procedures. The paralegal will work closely with clients to gather necessary documentation and assist in the filing of bankruptcy petitions in the Southern District of Florida Bankruptcy Court.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor Bankruptcy timelines
  • Answer client calls & follow-up with clients to collect and scan documents for petition preparation
  • Communicate with Trustee
  • Follow up with client regarding MMM responsibilities
  • Prepare reports and provide updates to supervising attorney
  • Complete Schedules
  • Complete amendments to schedules/forms
  • Draft plans & Draft amendments to plans
  • Draft MMM motions
  • Draft orders
  • Assist with the submission of file on DMM
  • Draft and file Motions, Notices, etc.
  • Prepare documentation and 341 Sheet for electronic access
  • Participate in mediator selection
  • Address Trustee deficiencies prior, during, and after Confirmation period
  • Research liens, creditors, properties, hidden assets, etc. belonging to client's
  • Confirm TBE and other joint ownership issues related to exemptions
  • Organize documents
  • Process Mail
  • Oversee Certificates of Service that are emergency matters
  • Handle all bankruptcy accounting (filing fees, credit report fees, DMM fees)
  • Review Trustee Ledgers
  • Assist accounting and office administrator with financial recording
  • Mail out Mediator payments when applicable
  • Organize and handle any and all Trustee funds
  • Request checks from Trust as necessary
  • Complete, organize, and review calendars
  • Calendar any necessary responses, deadlines, hearings

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of work experience in Florida Bankruptcy (debtor)
  • Ability to manage and prioritize large caseload
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
  • Conscientious with respect to work completion, deadlines, time management and attendance
  • Ability to take initiative in face of obstacles
  • Analytical and detail-oriented
  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to develop professional relationships and build rapport with others
  • Good work ethic and willingness to adapt to change
