The Bankruptcy Paralegal position at a Bankruptcy Law Firm in Memphis, TN, is a full-time role focused on supporting attorneys in the preparation and filing of bankruptcy-related documents. The ideal candidate will be organized, possess strong communication skills, and be able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. This entry-level position requires a good understanding of legal terminology and the ability to work independently while maintaining attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Processing, drafting, and filing bankruptcy-related documents including petitions and schedules, motions/objections, orders, notices, and Reaffirmation Agreements.
  • Gathering information from creditors, trustees, and court clerks.
  • Submitting legal documents to the Bankruptcy Court in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining files and monitoring cases on electronic platforms.
  • Reading and interpreting payment and financial records.
  • Keeping up to date on any changes from clients and court requirements.
  • Supporting and assisting in preparing attorneys for hearings.
  • Providing orders and other pleadings to clients as required.
  • Monitoring client systems, performing assigned tasks, and updating per client's expectations.
  • Processing electronic mail and hard mail received daily.
  • Effectively communicating with clients, creditor attorneys, trustees, and court staff.
  • Obtaining required bankruptcy dockets and current plan/confirmation orders.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1 year of experience as a paralegal or legal assistant.
  • Paralegal Certificate preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong research and investigation skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional proofreading skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bankruptcy experience preferred.
  • Experience with Best Case software preferred.
