About the position

The Banquet Manager at Skirball Cultural Center is responsible for overseeing catering operations and ensuring the successful execution of events. This role involves managing team members, coordinating with clients, and ensuring compliance with health and dietary regulations. The Banquet Manager acts as a liaison between various departments and is pivotal in maintaining service quality and operational efficiency during events.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the recruitment and training of team members in our standards and procedures.
  • Receive banquet event orders (BEOs) and determine proper staffing; ensure all food and service activities comply with BEOs, health and fire code requirements, and Jewish dietary laws, as requested.
  • Organize day-of event needs with the Event Coordinator and establish and implement day-of event schedules.
  • Plan, organize, and assign employee responsibilities to meet client needs.
  • Provide on-site supervision and coordination during events; act as liaison between clients and employees prior to and during events; provide goods and services during events, ensuring smooth efficient operations.
  • Represent the Skirball to guests; resolve problems quickly and efficiently; ensure service quality and standards.
  • Act as liaison between catering employees and Skirball employees in other departments.
  • Help maintain inventory supplies and proper equipment; ensure maintenance of stock areas for neatness and efficiency; report ordering needs to Senior Catering Manager.
  • Supervise performance of on-call employees; recommend disciplinary action when needed; help provide on-the-job training to ensure employees offer appropriate service; follow up to ensure compliance.
  • Assist Senior Catering Manager with managing tabulating payroll on ADP.
  • Maintain petty cash for cash bars, carts, and catering needs; follow procedures for balancing cash and submitting reports as scheduled.
  • Develop and maintain professional and managerial skills through participation in workshops and conferences, further education, and researching professional literature.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in a food and beverage operational position.
  • Must have a current California Food Handler's Certificate and ABC Certification.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, as a team player, and cross-functionally with all other departments.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
