About the position

The Bar/General Manager at Pullman Standard is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of an upscale cocktail lounge, ensuring excellent service, compliance with liquor laws, and effective management of staff and resources. This role focuses on promoting the business, enhancing profitability, and maintaining high standards of quality and safety in food and beverage service.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees daily operations and manages the business aspects of the bar.
  • Hires and trains staff to provide excellent service to guests.
  • Develops creative food and drink offerings that support the upscale cocktail lounge atmosphere.
  • Ensures compliance with Tennessee Liquor Laws at all times.
  • Supervises and trains staff to be knowledgeable, personable, and hospitable.
  • Maintains compliance with safety measures and achieves a high health code rating.
  • Resolves problems during the course of business and responds to complaints from staff and guests.
  • Advertises current daily, weekly, or monthly promotions.
  • Ensures the bar is well-stocked and clean.
  • Tracks guest behavior and sales.
  • Monitors revenue through appropriate reports.
  • Maintains and oversees budget in a fiscally responsible manner; monitors costs.
  • Plans for special events and maintains vendor relationships; negotiates supplier contracts.
  • Conducts inventory and selects and purchases liquor and other supplies.
  • Issues invoices, monitors receivables, and is responsible for collections.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of all events, expenses, revenues, and payments to external vendors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2-3 years of supervisory experience in an upscale bar/cocktail lounge setting.
  • Valid TABC license or permit.
  • Associates degree or higher in hotel or restaurant management preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of drink and food preparation or service.
  • Knowledge of computer operations, including Microsoft Office programs.
  • Excellent service orientation and interpersonal skills.
  • Good judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership ability and knowledge of food, beverage, and hospitality industries.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful or high-pressure situations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong command of the English language.
  • Ability to read and interpret financial data and documents such as P&L.
