About the position

The Barn Manager at Windwood Equestrian is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the equine facility, ensuring the health and well-being of the animals while maintaining a safe and organized barn environment. This role requires a strong background in animal care, mechanical knowledge, and farm management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily feeding and care routines for all animals, ensuring their health and well-being.
  • Oversee the maintenance of barn facilities, including cleaning stalls, managing waste disposal, and ensuring proper sanitation.
  • Coordinate irrigation systems for gardens and pastures to maintain optimal growing conditions.
  • Utilize hand tools and power tools for repairs and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
  • Operate tractor or equipment as needed for moving supplies and equipment around the property.
  • Monitor animal health, administer medications as required, and coordinate veterinary visits when necessary.
  • Supervise staff or volunteers involved in animal care and barn maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain inventory of feed, bedding, and other supplies; order as necessary to ensure continuous availability.
  • Implement safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for all staff and animals.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of equine care practices and general animal husbandry.
  • Mechanical knowledge to perform basic repairs on barn equipment and machinery.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Experience with irrigation systems for maintaining gardens or pastures.
  • Ability to operate equipment safely in a farm setting.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with staff, volunteers, veterinarians, and suppliers.
  • A passion for working with animals and a commitment to their welfare.

Nice-to-haves

  • Farming experience (1 year preferred)
