About the position

The Bartender at HMSHost in Chicago O'Hare Airport is responsible for providing exceptional customer service while preparing and serving a variety of beverages, including cocktails, beer, and other drinks. This role involves greeting customers, taking drink and food orders, and mixing ingredients such as liquor, soda, water, and sugar to create cocktails. The Bartender must ensure that all transactions are completed accurately and efficiently, while also communicating with the manager on duty and servers regarding ticket times and any potential issues that may arise. The position requires a commitment to maintaining the highest quality of service for customers and associates at all times, and performing additional responsibilities as directed by management. In this role, the Bartender will greet customers and take their food orders, providing information about products and looking for opportunities to up-sell. Following established recipes and product directions for mixing beverages is essential, as is the collection of payments and operation of cash registers in accordance with company policies. The Bartender must also ensure that the bar area is clean, sanitized, and well-stocked, adhering to all safety and sanitation policies. This position is non-exempt and typically reports to the Store Manager, Assistant Store Manager, or General Manager, depending on local requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Greet customers and take food and drink orders.
  • Provide information about products and look for opportunities to up-sell.
  • Follow recipes and product directions for mixing beverages.
  • Collect payments and operate cash registers for drinks and food served, following cash handling policies.
  • Secure all monies at the end of each shift.
  • Follow alcohol awareness procedures to prevent intoxication and manage intoxicated guests.
  • Ensure a clean, sanitized, and well-stocked bar area.
  • Adhere to all company safety and sanitation policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Must meet state minimum age for serving alcoholic beverages.
  • At least 1 year of closely related bartending experience required.
  • Experience in a high volume or fast casual dining restaurant environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of beer, wine, and spirits, including their preparation and presentation.
  • Ability to interact with the public and coworkers in a friendly, enthusiastic manner.
  • Ability to speak, read, and comprehend instructions and policy documents.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to walk, bend, twist, and stand to perform normal job functions.
  • Cash handling and customer service experience preferred.
