About the position

The Base Builder position at Mid-City Community Advocacy Network (Mid-City CAN) is a full-time role focused on supporting the Youth Council in their community organizing and advocacy efforts. The role involves building relationships with community members, assisting with programming, and facilitating various activities aimed at promoting youth engagement and park equity. The Base Builder will work closely with the Youth Council to implement campaigns, manage data, and coordinate events, while also participating in outreach and communication efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct one-on-ones to build relationships for Mid-City CAN Youth Council
  • Stay informed about local youth supportive services and resources for referrals
  • Support Youth Team Staff in coordinating youth projects, summer field trips, events, and meetings
  • Set up and manage Youth Council's registration for meetings and events
  • Create content for social media and emails to promote Youth Council engagement
  • Prepare materials for youth council weekly meetings and activities
  • Document Youth Council activities via Instagram and Nation Builder
  • Phone-banking and text banking to youth members weekly
  • Track and update Youth Council member attendance for grant reporting
  • Complete weekly data entry and progress reports
  • Conduct outreach to schools and agencies to recruit members
  • Execute assigned campaign plans and adhere to timelines and deadlines
  • Attend all staff meetings, trainings, and retreats

Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in community development, youth development, sociology, public policy, social work, or related fields
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in a relevant field
  • Experience in community organizing or leadership training
  • Familiarity with community development, youth organizing, and political advocacy
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Somali, Arabic, or Vietnamese preferred
  • Data entry or database management experience
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Access to reliable transportation for job-related tasks
