About the position

The Basic Life Research Scientist position at Stanford University involves conducting advanced research in the field of stem cell biology and cancer. The role is situated within the Department of Radiation Oncology and focuses on studying normal and malignant stem cells, contributing to scientific projects, and mentoring junior lab members. This is a one-year fixed-term position with potential for renewal based on performance and funding.

Responsibilities

  • Lead scientific projects including design and execution of experiments.
  • Analyze and present data from research activities.
  • Assist laboratory members with their experiments.
  • Mentor junior lab members and participate in their training.
  • Ensure efficient operations of the lab, including budget management and equipment care.
  • Write scientific sections of grant applications and progress reports.
  • Attend weekly lab meetings and contribute to multiple projects.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in stem cell biology, cancer biology, immunology, or related field.
  • Post-doctoral experience in a relevant field is preferred.
  • Extensive experience with molecular biology techniques, mouse handling, and flow-cytometry analysis.
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture, RNA-sequencing, and microscopy.
  • Familiarity with genetic manipulation techniques such as CRISPR is desired.
  • Ability to independently design and troubleshoot experiments.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Illustrator, GraphPad Prism, R, and other relevant software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in computational biology is welcome.
