About the position

The Basic Science Faculty - Physiology/Microbiology at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine will serve as a facilitator in the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Pathway, teaching and assisting in courses related to physiology and microbiology. This role involves evaluating students, preparing educational materials, conducting research, and contributing to the college's mission through service and community involvement.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate PBL sessions according to the published schedule.
  • Teach and assist in courses utilizing various teaching methods such as lectures and laboratory activities.
  • Evaluate students in each class and laboratory assigned.
  • Prepare evaluation tools to assess student performance and identify weaknesses.
  • Contribute to curriculum development by preparing course syllabi and materials.
  • Provide academic advice and support to students during office hours and by appointment.
  • Engage in research projects related to the discipline or osteopathic medicine.
  • Be physically present at LECOM for no less than 40 hours per week during normal school hours.
  • Prepare written monthly reports on activities for the administration.
  • Interview prospective candidates for the College of Medicine.
  • Serve on committees and advise students and clubs.
  • Conduct at least two scholarly activities or research projects yearly.
  • Prepare educational tools and coordinate with other faculty members.
  • Contribute to overall student success and outcomes.
  • Participate in institutional fundraising and community outreach.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. degree in a relevant field is required.
  • Teaching experience in academia, preferably 2-5 years.
  • Knowledge of student and patient privacy regulations (FERPA, HIPAA).
  • Strong communication skills and computer literacy (MS Office Suite).
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of work-related information.
  • Flexibility to accept additional duties as needed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Physiology and Microbiology is preferred.
