About the position

The Oklahoma City Thunder is seeking a Basketball Communications Associate to join their team for the 2024-25 NBA season. This part-time position offers a unique entry-level opportunity for individuals looking to pursue a career in public relations within the professional sports industry. The role will commence in September 2024 and will require associates to work most home games, as well as assist with various projects on non-game days. The Basketball Communications Associate will play a vital role in supporting the media and the Thunder's Basketball Communications team, ensuring smooth operations during the season. In this position, the associate will oversee the Thunder press room before, during, and after home games, ensuring that all media needs are met. They will be responsible for obtaining quotes from players and coaches following games, assisting local and national media with inquiries, and attending press conferences to transcribe select media events throughout the season. Additionally, the associate will assist with game-day arena setup, which requires availability from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on game days. Other responsibilities include assembling media and visiting team packets and delivering media information and credentials to visiting team hotels the day before home games. This role is essential in maintaining the high standards of communication and media relations that the Oklahoma City Thunder is known for.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Thunder press room before, during, and after home games.
  • Obtain quotes from players and coaches following the game.
  • Assist local and national media with questions or inquiries according to company policies.
  • Attend press conferences and transcribe select media events throughout the season.
  • Assist with game-day arena setup, requiring availability from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on game day.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • General knowledge of the National Basketball Association and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to high-quality work.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Self-motivated and ambitious.
  • A valid driver's license and clean driving record are required for occasional travel.
