About the position

The Basketball Communications Specialist position with the State Basketball Championship is an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about youth sports, particularly basketball. This part-time role is designed for those who possess strong communication, media, sales, and marketing skills. The expected first tournament date is October 6th, 2024, and the position requires 100% weekend availability from October to March. The hourly pay is set at $20, along with a mileage reimbursement of 60 cents per mile for travel to various basketball tournaments, which can be up to 100 miles from the candidate's residence. In this role, you will serve as the primary point of contact for teams, coaches, and parents, ensuring effective communication and support throughout the tournament process. Your responsibilities will include traveling to youth basketball tournaments, collecting essential media contact information, qualifying teams for the state-wide event, capturing team photos, and enhancing the organization’s online presence through social media engagement. The State Basketball Championship has been operating since 2012 and is known for hosting the largest qualifier-based youth basketball tournaments across the nation, culminating in a statewide tournament in March. This position not only allows you to immerse yourself in the world of youth basketball but also offers the chance to contribute to a positive sporting experience for young athletes.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with teams, coaches, and parents as the primary point of contact.
  • Travel to youth basketball tournaments, up to 100 miles from the city listed in the job posting.
  • Collect essential contact information from coaches and teams via quality customer service.
  • Capture photos of qualifying teams for marketing on our social media.
  • Post on social media (Facebook), highlighting key aspects of the tournament.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Passion for basketball/sports.
  • Dependable transportation to attend statewide tournaments.
  • Outstanding communication/public relations skills for effective interaction with teams, coaches, and parents.
  • Strong organizational abilities.
  • Comfortable with technology (Social Media/Email/phone camera).
  • Quick-thinking and adept at multitasking.
  • Experience in communications, marketing, public relations, social media, and journalism.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2 years of experience in basketball (preferred).
