About the position

The Basketball Communications Specialist position with the State Basketball Championship is an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about youth sports, particularly basketball. This part-time role is designed for those who possess strong communication, media, sales, and marketing skills. The expected first tournament date is October 6th, 2024, and the position requires 100% weekend availability from October to March. The pay is set at $20 per hour, along with a mileage reimbursement of 60 cents per mile for travel to various basketball tournaments. As a Basketball Communications Specialist, you will serve as the primary point of contact for teams, coaches, and parents, ensuring effective communication and support throughout the tournament process. Your responsibilities will include traveling to youth basketball tournaments, which may be up to 100 miles from your residence, collecting vital media contact information, qualifying teams for the state-wide event, capturing team photos, and enhancing the organization’s online presence through social media engagement. This role not only allows you to immerse yourself in the world of youth basketball but also to contribute to the overall success of the tournaments by promoting a positive experience for all participants. The State Basketball Championship has been a leader in organizing qualifier-based youth basketball tournaments since 2012, drawing teams from across the nation. With a lineup of 16 championship tournaments planned for 2025, the organization is committed to providing a premier experience for over 22,000 players from 22 states. As a Basketball Communications Specialist, you will play a crucial role in facilitating these events and ensuring that all communications are handled professionally and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with teams, coaches, and parents as the primary point of contact.
  • Travel to youth basketball tournaments, up to 100 miles from the city listed in the job posting.
  • Collect essential contact information from coaches and teams via quality customer service.
  • Capture photos of qualifying teams for marketing on our social media.
  • Post on social media (Facebook), highlighting key aspects of the tournament.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 2 years of experience in basketball preferred.
  • Strong communication and public relations skills for effective interaction with teams, coaches, and parents.
  • Outstanding organizational abilities.
  • Dependable transportation to attend statewide tournaments.
  • Comfortable with technology (Social Media/Email/phone camera).
  • Quick-thinking and adept at multitasking.
