About the position

The position involves processing raw materials into margarine, red and white sauces, or salsas. The individual will be responsible for training all other batch operators and break reliefs in the batching process, which includes material handling, material tracking, batching procedures, documentation procedures, and sanitation. Additionally, the role supports the review, understanding, and compliance of all programs, policies, and procedures contained in the Food Safety and Quality Management System.

Responsibilities

  • Follows approved procedures, blending raw materials into sauces using blending tanks, transfer pumps, and heat exchangers.
  • Training of new operators in the process to ensure consistency and accuracy in documentation of lot numbers, batch adjustments, rework/reprocess tracking, and proper sanitation methods.
  • Completes sanitation of the process equipment and batching room.
  • Monitors pressure gauges, flow meters/scales, thermometers, or products, and adjusts controls to maintain specified conditions.
  • Records temperatures, amounts of batches processed, and/or test results on report forms.
  • Reads dials and gauges on panel control boards to ascertain temperatures, moisture content, and densities of mixtures.
  • Corrects machinery malfunctions by monitoring pumps, motors, and agitators, and informs supervisors of malfunctions as necessary.
  • Starts machinery such as pumps, feeders, or conveyors, and turns valves to heat, admit, or transfer products.
  • Coordinates change-over with line operators and pre-stages ingredients for production.
  • Completes batching, equipment, and room sanitation paperwork, following GMP protocols.
  • Performs other duties as needed or assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Food processing experience preferred or at least some experience working as a mixer in a similar work environment.
  • Ability to function with minimal supervision and learn, write, implement, and follow processing and sanitation procedures.
  • Basic math skills and process equipment problem-solving aptitude.
  • Writing skills are a must.
