About the position
The Mild/Moderate Special Education Paraeducator position at Bates Elementary is designed to assist teaching personnel in supervising and instructing special education students. The role involves performing clerical tasks, meeting personal care and health needs of students, and helping develop their academic, daily living, and behavioral skills. This part-time position requires working 5.5 hours a day for 9 months a year, focusing on creating a safe and positive learning environment for students with special needs.
Responsibilities
- Communicates with parents to schedule meetings and relay messages for special education teachers.
- Assists in maintaining students' files and records to document activities and provide reliable information.
- Monitors individual students in various settings to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
- Performs record keeping and clerical functions to support the teacher and/or administrator.
- Adapts classroom work under the direction of the teacher to support lesson plans.
- Provides instruction and support to students in different settings, including special education and general education classrooms.
- Implements instructional behavioral programs under the supervision of the teacher to improve students' academic success.
- Assists with daily living skills such as toileting, feeding, and personal hygiene as needed.
- Supports classroom teacher in collecting data related to student performance.
- Assists other personnel as required to support their work activities.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Post-secondary education preferred.
- Experience in a job-related field preferred.
- Valid Paraprofessional Certification certification required.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience working with special education students.
