About the position

In this role, you will assist in the development of Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries for consumer electronics. You will develop Li-ion battery cell designs according to the Mechanical Control Outline (MCO), Engineering Requirements Specification (ERS), and Design For Manufacturability (DFM). This position requires effective communication with a cross-functional team as well as vendors to resolve technical issues and drive designs of experiments (DOE) to optimize the internal cell design parameters and related critical processes. The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world's most helpful mobile experience, working on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes integrating Google's artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries for consumer electronics.
  • Develop Li-ion battery cell designs according to MCO, ERS, and DFM.
  • Define and perform qualification matrices to qualify Li-ion batteries.
  • Summarize and present technical results related to qualification processes.
  • Communicate across a cross-functional team and vendors to resolve technical issues.
  • Drive DOE's to optimize the internal cell design parameters and related critical process parameters.

Requirements

  • Experience working in electrochemistry and with Li-ion batteries materials.
  • Experience with battery cell tests for validation of performance, reliability, or safety.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or PhD in Chemistry, Material Science, or Engineering.
  • 3 years of experience in developing and qualifying Li-ion cells with external vendors for consumer electronic devices.
  • Experience with battery test conditions, requirements, and equipment (e.g., impedance meters, Maccor or Arbin battery tester, etc.).
  • Experience using statistical process control tools (e.g. Minitab or JMP) and data tools (e.g., Python, SQL, MATLAB, etc.).
  • Experience with international standards and compliance requirements of Li-ion batteries for consumer electronics.
  • Experience with protection circuit modules and fuel gauges.
