About the position

The Battery & Propulsion Thermal 1D Engineer position at General Motors involves working in a collaborative team focused on developing propulsion-related system models, including thermal, hydraulic, lubrication, and ventilation domains. The role requires building 1D fluid dynamics and coarse 3D thermal models that impact design development and validation, aiming to reduce hardware testing. The engineer will work on simulations related to battery cells, battery packs, drive units, electric motors, power electronics, combustion engines, and transmission systems.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize, build, and exercise analytical system level models for electrified and conventional propulsion systems using 1D software tools.
  • Integrate plant models of different domains into a larger system level model capable of Software or Hardware in the Loop Co-Simulation.
  • Provide component-level and/or system-level design recommendations based on analysis results.
  • Own and advance analysis practices and/or tools to improve prediction fidelity and execution speed.
  • Collaborate with analysis counterparts across several VDDV teams representing global propulsion systems and vehicle engineering.
  • Mentor, train and lead TCS India colleagues and new team members.
  • Provide technical leadership and problem resolution by leveraging analysis results.
  • Lead efficiency improvement projects, including the development of automation tools via Python or MATLAB.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience with simulation, design, testing, or release of propulsion related systems
  • 2+ years of experience with GT-SUITE, AMESIM or similar software
  • Extensive experience with the principles of vehicle propulsion system design, operation, or testing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with coursework in heat transfer or fluid mechanics
  • Extensive experience with test to model correlation processes, considering variation analysis
  • Experience with programming or scripting in Python, MATLAB or similar software
  • Extensive experience with Siemens NX CAD modeling.

Benefits

  • Paid time off including vacation days, holidays, and parental leave for mothers, fathers and adoptive parents
  • Healthcare (including a triple tax advantaged health savings account and wellness incentive), dental, vision and life insurance plans
