About the position

Come join the Mountain Park Beer & Wine Team! This is a regular 32 hours/week position. The schedule is likely to be Friday through Monday, working mid shifts, and flexibility is preferred. The Beer and Wine Assistant Manager will partner with the Beer and Wine Manager to manage the department and staff, ensuring financial stewardship, customer service, department conditions, merchandising, food safety, work safety, communication, hiring, training, and performance management. The role is crucial in providing an exceptional customer shopping experience, with a focus on service and product knowledge. The Assistant Manager will create a positive and progressive work environment, promoting collaboration and open communication among staff. This position requires a proactive approach to resolving staff issues and conflicts, as well as the ability to adapt to different learning styles among team members. The Assistant Manager will also be responsible for overseeing inventory management, ordering products, and ensuring compliance with state and local liquor laws. Additionally, the role involves maintaining department cleanliness and organization, as well as participating in the development and execution of merchandising plans to drive sales and enhance the customer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Beer and Wine Manager to supervise all department staff.
  • Create a positive and supportive work environment.

  • Build and sustain a high performing team through effective hiring, training, and performance management.
  • Ensure department provides exceptional customer service and product knowledge.
  • Manage inventory levels and order products according to anticipated sales and seasonal needs.
  • Maintain department conditions, ensuring all areas are stocked, rotated, and adhere to merchandising standards.
  • Conduct in-store tastings in partnership with the Promotions department.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable state and local liquor laws.
  • Handle escalated customer service situations and seek solutions to delight the customer.

Requirements

  • Previous customer service, food service, retail or grocery experience required.
  • Previous retail beer and wine experience preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated product knowledge, including terminology, styles and producers, required.
  • Previous ordering/inventory management experience required.
  • Basic to intermediate math and computation skills required.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer proficiency required.
  • Experience with Excel and inventory software preferred.
  • Skills to manage financial results, including labor and profit margin.
  • Skills to plan, prioritize and delegate work.
  • Skills to train, coach and hold staff accountable.
  • Skills to work independently and manage own time effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous beer, wine, ordering and/or grocery experience preferred.
