About the position
The Behavior Interventionist at Larchmont Charter School plays a crucial role in supporting behaviorally-challenged students within the Special Education program. This position involves providing instructional and behavioral support, monitoring student progress, and implementing Intensive Behavior Intervention methods based on the Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) model. The Behavior Interventionist works closely with the Education Specialist and General Education teacher to ensure that students with disabilities receive the necessary support to thrive academically and socially.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Education Specialist and GenEd teacher in providing instructional and behavioral support to behaviorally-challenged students.
- Monitor and redirect student progress regarding inappropriate behaviors and performance.
- Support the acquisition of appropriate skills and behaviors in students.
- Assist in meeting special needs, including feeding and toileting students.
- Perform a variety of responsible and specialized tasks in the physical care and classroom instruction of students with disabilities.
- Administer Intensive Behavior Intervention methods based on the ABA model, including Discrete Trial Training (DTT).
- Perform clerical duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma; minimum of two years of college (60 semester units completed).
- ABA certification OR one year of experience working with students with special needs, including students with autism, and some demonstrated experience implementing ABA-based behavior intervention techniques.
- TB Test clearance & DOJ fingerprinting clearance.
- An enthusiasm to support ALL students.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in observing and charting student behavioral data.
- Training in implementing Intensive Behavior Intervention techniques.
