About the position

The Behavior Specialist position at Frederick County Public Schools is designed to enhance the capacity of school staff in implementing a variety of positive behavior intervention strategies. In this role, the Behavior Specialist will be responsible for training and mentoring school staff on best practices in behavior management and intervention strategies. The specialist will also be involved in assessing student needs, developing individualized behavior plans, and monitoring progress to ensure that interventions are effective and aligned with educational goals. Responsibilities

  • Build capacity of school staff to implement positive behavior intervention strategies.
  • Support the emotional, social, and behavioral needs of students.

  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of behavior interventions.

  • Stay updated on special education regulations and instructional methods.

Requirements

  • Virginia teaching license preferred.
  • Minimum of three years successful teaching experience.
  • Special education classroom experience preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of instructional methods, strategies, and practices that support students with behavior challenges.
  • Knowledge of special education regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Enrolled or plan to enroll in a program approved by the BACB to meet eligibility for the Behavior Analysis Certification Board exam within three years of accepting the position.
