About the position

The Behavior Specialist position at Frederick County Public Schools is designed to enhance the capacity of school staff in implementing a variety of positive behavior intervention strategies. This role is crucial in supporting the emotional, social, and behavioral needs of students, particularly those facing challenges in these areas. The Behavior Specialist will work closely with teachers, administrators, and support staff to develop and execute effective behavior intervention plans tailored to individual student needs. This collaborative approach aims to create a supportive learning environment that fosters student success and well-being. In this role, the Behavior Specialist will be responsible for training and mentoring school staff on best practices in behavior management and intervention strategies. This includes conducting workshops, providing one-on-one coaching, and offering resources that empower educators to address behavioral issues proactively. The specialist will also be involved in assessing student needs, developing individualized behavior plans, and monitoring progress to ensure that interventions are effective and aligned with educational goals. The position requires a deep understanding of special education regulations and instructional methods that cater to students with behavioral challenges. The Behavior Specialist will also engage with parents and guardians to provide guidance and support, fostering a partnership that enhances student outcomes. This role is pivotal in promoting a positive school culture and ensuring that all students have access to the resources they need to thrive academically and socially.

Responsibilities

• Build capacity of school staff to implement positive behavior intervention strategies.
• Support the emotional, social, and behavioral needs of students.
• Conduct workshops and training sessions for educators on behavior management techniques.
• Develop individualized behavior intervention plans for students.
• Monitor and assess the effectiveness of behavior interventions.
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to create a supportive learning environment.
• Engage with parents and guardians to provide guidance and support regarding student behavior.
• Stay updated on special education regulations and instructional methods.

Requirements

• Virginia teaching license preferred.
• Minimum of three years successful teaching experience.
• Special education classroom experience preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of instructional methods, strategies, and practices that support students with behavior challenges.
• Knowledge of special education regulations.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Enrolled or plan to enroll in a program approved by the BACB to meet eligibility for the Behavior Analysis Certification Board exam within three years of accepting the position.
