About the position

The Behavioral Health Aide position at Good Samaritan University Hospital involves providing support to patients with mental health issues, ensuring their safety and well-being through observation and intervention practices. The role requires effective communication with the interdisciplinary team and the ability to perform various clinical tasks while promoting a positive environment for both patients and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes crisis and/or de-escalation intervention practices with clients as necessary.
  • Assists in the application and removal of restraints when deemed necessary by appropriate personnel.
  • Identifies patient characteristics and environmental variables that may trigger agitated behaviors and communicates this information to the interdisciplinary team.
  • Performs observation and monitoring of assigned patients on a one-to-one basis.
  • Documents observations on forms and/or computerized patient records as per policy.
  • Performs patient checks/rounds as required and reports observations to assigned nursing staff.
  • Communicates clinical matters to assigned RN or other professional staff as required.
  • Accurately performs and records procedures such as full vital signs and EKGs.
  • Safely assists with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) during psychiatric emergencies.
  • Interacts therapeutically and respectfully with all patients, their family members, and staff.
  • Promotes positive working relationships with peers and others.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience working with the mentally ill population preferred.
  • Previous hospital experience is a plus.
  • BLS Certification required from the American Heart Association.
