About the position
The Behavioral Health Assistant at Bartlett Regional Hospital plays a crucial role in supporting patients within the Behavioral Health Outpatient Services team. This entry-level position focuses on ensuring patient safety and facilitating their participation in various program activities. The assistant is responsible for documenting patient interactions, providing orientation upon admission, leading community meetings, and implementing recreational activities, all while maintaining therapeutic interactions with patients.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate patient participation in program activities.
- Document interactions with patients, including events or situations that occur during shifts.
- Provide patient orientation upon admission.
- Lead community meetings.
- Implement planned recreational activities.
- Transport patients as needed.
- Assist in the care and monitoring of patients receiving services from Behavioral Health Outpatient Services and Mental Health Unit.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must obtain 10 hours of education related to Mental Health and/or addictions within four months of hire and annually.
- One year of experience working directly with the public providing a service or one year of experience working with patients or clients diagnosed with addiction or mental illness.
- Preference for applicants with experience working with persons experiencing mental health, addiction, or behavioral health challenges.
- A minimum of twelve college credits in Psychology, Sociology, Mental Health, or Chemical Dependency can substitute for the required year of experience.
- Current Alaska driver's license required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider CPR or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification must be obtained within ninety days of hire.
- TEAM & Behavioral Emergency Response Team (BERT) training must be obtained within ninety days of hire.
